Default can't play mpeg-4 files

Well, I downloaded the codec for Mpeg-4 video files, and they will not play. So I downloaded Quicktime, and it plays halfway through then breaks up with no sound. I update the QT and it does the exact same thing. I have downloaded the video file over an
d over and it still doesn't work. What is going on?

Hi, Where did you get the file from? What extension does it have? There
are several variations of the MPEG-4 codec.
