Default Windows XP help

When I load my Windows XP Home based computer it starts out fine but when the computer tries to laod the desktop and taskbar it slows down "to a crawl" so to say. Do I have programs trying to load that is slowing this process down or has my processor slowe
d down? I tried to get help from the compuiter manufacturer (Sony) but can't find help. Can you help me?

When you upgraded where you given the option to save your previous OS? If
you were, nad you did, then there should be a listing in Add or Remove
Programs to remove the previous OS.

I recently upgraded from 2000 to Xp. Is it possible to
have not erased 2000 and it just take up space? Is there
a way I can check on that?
