Default incoming fax problems

I recently installed the fax program on my computer but
am not able to receive faxes from out of my area code.
Any suggestions?

I'd suggest posting all the details of why you cannot receive faxes, how fax
is configured, and how you know it is an area code problem.
You haven't provided a single clue that would permit any troubleshooting.

Sorry for the vague info. The reason I think the problem
is area code related is that when faxes were sent from
out of the area and were not received x3 (sender states
she got confirmation on her fax), I had my local
employer fax me something so I could be sure the fax was
working. This came through without any problem.

Event Viewer?
Is your modem on the Windows XP HCL list?
