Default mouse problems on laptop

Hello, Ive had this problem with the center mouse button on my laptop. When im using my external mouse, the center button in the keyboard tends to stick. When this happens the pointer zips over to a corner and i have to struggle to gain control. Is there a
way to turn this stupid mouse button off? BTW im using a Dell Inspiron 4000 on Win XP home edition
