Default disappearing network connections

I am using a VPN client that creates a virtual network adapter or NIC
in the XP folder for "Network Connections". This virtual adapter, I
have shared using the ICS wizard. But now for some reason the adapter
has disappeared from the Network Connections folder and the sharing no
longer works. Reinstalling the VPN software doesn't work. I can see
the adapter in the registry but it won't appear. How can I get back my
icon so I can enable ICS for it?
Is there an alternative way to share a (virtual) NIC? How about netsp?
Thanks

Mark
