Default Problem with Windows Explorer on XP-Pro/SP2

Very interesting news:

On my system the problem is NOT intermittent, but the crash occurs
every second time I invoke Windows Explorer or one of its derivatives
(control panel, my computer, etc).

Can anyone reproduce this?

on my laptop running XP-Pro with SP2 installed. Intermittently, when

I start
it I get the following error message: "Windows Explorer has

encountered a
problem and needs to close." The desktop then refreshes and some of

the
icons in the tray on the right side of the task bar disappear, though

the
programs are still active.

I keep my Norton Internet Security and Lavasoft programs up to date

and run
virus and spyware checks at least once a week. So it is unlikely to

be a
problem related to a virus or spyware.

I know I didn't have the problem before I installed SP2, but can't

swear to
it that it started right after the SP2 upgrade.

Any ideas?

My problem occurred when I was trying to load new software (Media Player and
Movie maker). Any ideas?
