Desktop reloads often
Recently, I've noticed that the icons on my desktop, the browser and some
other open windows reload without any provocation on my part... I could work in a word processor or do something else, when all those mentioned above windows would reload quite quickly. Although no harm is done, I wonder if this is normal for Window XP Home SP2? If it is not normal, what causes this reload? How to fix it? Any help is appreciated. -- Ilya Zeldes Fort Myers, Florida |

It is not a function of SP2. I only see this when first booting or when a
game I have been playing exits and the system restores my default resolution. -- Colin Barnhorst [MVP Windows - Virtual Machine] (Reply to the group only unless otherwise requested) "ilyaz" wrote in message ... Colin,
I do not ply games, except occasional Minesweeper, and never noticed any change in resolution. As I mentioned it in the original post, this happens out of blue... Is there a way to correct it? You need to see what process running on your system is causing a refresh.
For starters make sure you have the latest video drivers from manufacturer's website (not Windows Update). -- Colin Barnhorst [MVP Windows - Virtual Machine] (Reply to the group only unless otherwise requested) "ilyaz" wrote in message ... Colin,
I have the latest video driver from Intel. But how do I find which process causes a refresh? I looked in the Task Manager, there are 3 or 4 dozens of processes running... Which one is a culprit? How can I identify it? Ilya "Colin Barnhorst" wrote in message ... You need to see what process running on your system is causing a refresh. You can troubleshoot with the following article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;310560 The idea is to turn programs on one by one until the problem reappears. Then you know which program is causing the problem and you can update it to see if that helps, or delete it and switch to another program. -- Colin Barnhorst [MVP Windows - Virtual Machine] (Reply to the group only unless otherwise requested) "ilyaz" wrote in message ... I agree. When coming out of various applications, XP home frequently
refreshes the desktop icons. Entire process takes about 5 seconds, and causes no problems. On that basis, the principle "if it ain't broke don't fix it" comes into play - I accept it as a benign system quirk. 5 seconds (or less, I've not actually timed it, it's quick) - doesn't affect my lifestyle, nor is my curiosity aroused to any great extent. The "problem" is so minor that (in my view, others may disagree) it's not worth bothering with - been happening for quite a while with no downside that I've noticed. Len,
if you remember my original post, I said that no harm is done. And I would not fix it, if it's not broke. However, in my case, there is this annoying quirk: while reading news messages in Outlook Express, the message in preview pane reloads and it does not matter where I was at, I'm taking to the beginning of it... Apols, didn't realise it happened DURING a prog session, understood it to
mean when you closed a prog and returned to desktop (as happens with me). Sorry! Len "ilyaz" wrote in message ... Len, if you remember my original post, I said that no harm is done.
