Default Print Spooler

A while back I had a problem with my frequent pop ups on my Dell computer,
went through tech support (in India), and the rep had change something. It
worked fine since then, but I am now trying to add a Lexmark printer and
download drivers, and I keep getting "Print Spooler Service not running". It
will not let me download drivers. I'm using Windows XP.
Please help!

Did you check to see if the service is running?

Right click My Computer / Manage. Look at the services and start the print
spooler. Set it to Automatic.

Cari - Do you know how to flush the printer spool file?
The Brother tech rep said that I can't flush print jobs
using the printer dialog box because the printer driver
has already handed the job off to the spooler, and if
the spooler doesn't understand the file, it will cause
the printer to print dozens or hundreds of pages with
just one line of gibberish.

Default Print Spooler

I had the same problem with my Brother HL-1230 laser printer for weeks. I
came into the newsgroup, but obviously got a different thread to this one.
The advice given was to go to My ComputerC drive Windows folder System32
folder Spool Printers folder. Delete whatever is in the Printers
folder (in my case a Gif image which was blank, A string of zeros.SDH file
which was empty, and an empty drivers folder) After you have deleted the
contents of the Printers folder, come out of there, then go to Control Panel
Administrative services scroll down to "Printer Server". Double click to

open, and click on "Start" button. Then get out of there, and see if your
printer will greet you with a printed page. I have had no trouble since.
Good luck.

Default Print Spooler

Whoops : made an error. When you go into Control Panel Admin Tools
Services you go to Print Spooler, NOT Printer Server - Sorry.

Thank you for this advice. I was having the same re-occurring spooler
messages and when I followed your steps, it solved the problem.
