Default hardware profiles

About two weeks ago, Windows stopped recognizing my speakers and my printers.
When I try to access the Device Manager, it only shows a blank window. When I
try to re-add the speakers/printer, the Add Hardware option says it can't
run. Help!

What is the virus/malware status of the computer? Over the last few
weeks we've seen a rash of empty Device Managers caused by the Apropos
malware. Here's the fix for that:
