Default Malicious Software Tool

I have automatic updates turned on, but every few minutes a download comes up
for the above tool. When I checked my download history these updates are all
there, heaps of the same thing. It is affecting my computer to the point that
I have to do a cold start to get everything working properly. Does anyone
know why this tool keeps downloading itself and how I can stop it. My
operating system is Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2. Thank in advance for any
help.

Various,

Navigate to the WINDOWS\Debug folder. The mrt.log is the one created by
the MSRT. Open it and see what the result of the scans show.
You may need to download and run it manually from within Safe Mode due
to a malware presence.
