Default MSN Messenger 7.5 not singing in. 7.0 works fine

Well, the message to upgrade just got too annoying, so I decided to upgrade
my version to 7.5, I've tried multiple builds (306, 311 and 322) and they all
come up with an error "Signing in to MSN Messenger failed because the service
is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." Error code is 80048883
My housemate can log in fine pver the wireless network using 7.5, and my
7.0.0816 logs in ok too. Just when I try anything of 7.5 upwards.
The login text is slow to update and whether I get it to go through a proxy,
or direct connect, it is still the same. On testing the connection it comes
up with green ticks across the board, and says I am connected to the internet
through a wireless network connection.
I had zonealarm installed, but I tried turning it off, on, getting it to
re-find Messenger and nothing... so it got uninstalled. Multiple reboots....
nothing
I flushed the DNS cache, removed cookies, made sure ssl 2 and 3 are enabled
in ie, and even regeistered the DLLs suggested in other posts. Nothing....
I can always go back to 7 but it really should work, and without a clue as
to what is causing it, its going to continue being a problem unless I try and
sort it.

Any Help/suggestions appreciated.

Yes, I've done that successfully, but it doesnt resolve the issue that I'm
having with 7.5. Presumably I will not be able to upgrade past 7.0 until
this issue has resolved.
Thanks for the feedback tho.
I am having trouble installing the latest version of DirectX, it gives an
issue about cryptography saying it cant verify one of the cabinet files. I
cant get the exact error message because I'm at work, but could it be a crypt
issue causing this?

OK, I got it working fine now. It was a crypto problem.

Having gone through a massive list of possible solutions from a rather
informative article on microsoft support....

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;822798

this was the solution:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=555374

basically when I went into Internet explorer and looked at my certificates
(Microsoft Root Certificate) I noticed it was displaying an error on the
first screen saying something about no rights to run the crypto service....
hey presto, ran that through google and came up with the solution pasted
above....

Hope it helps someone else

It also got rid of the really slow typing issue for me YEY

We have also upraded to 7.5 and are getting the 80048883 error. Can't
find a resolution anywhere... and when MSN was contacted, they sent me
an email on how to disable our firewall... NO firewall even
installed... at all. So, that's not going to matter much. I have also
registerd the suggested dll's, uninstalled and removed Registery
settings, dumped cache, reinstalled, etc. Can't find a 7.0 or earlier
installer .... HELP.

Alice! You're a life saver! THANK YOU! I hate it when software
companies distribute without adequate testing!
