Some people just add me to a multiple chat without recieving some
confirmation
message or warning...

I HATE THAT... is there a way I can disable this??
I am sure it is a security risk

No there is no way of disabling it, nor is it a security risk. You choose
who to have on your contact list, and if you have people to add you to
multi-person chats it's your fault =).

That's the real answer. You have to deal with it, or tell them not to do
it. If they continue to do so, remove them from your contact list.

The real answer is - nope MS havn't thought that through.

That fact that large conversations often cause my client to slow down
and crash does make it a security risk (and I have a mid range system,
if it can manage half life 2, it should be OK with an instant messenging
program).

Sometimes I don't want to be added to a conversation full of people I
don't know (and may have even blocked).

It is a problem - you remove someone from your list but then someone
else adds you into a conversation with them- the first person now knows
you've blocked them!

Surley a better approach would be if I block/remove someone, then they
are not able to see my online presence or recieve my messages - even if
someone else invites me in with them.

It appears that the only way to avoid being roped into group conversations
is to sign in as "appear offline", and hope that nobody who you're messaging
invites you in......

Whilst multichat can have its uses, it can also be a big pain in the bum

I guess that's what you get for having idiots on your contact list that
insist on having large conversations, just be a boring person and you don't
get added

Not necessarily, Sean. I've been added to a chat with a friend of a contact.
IOW, my contact was chatting with someone else, who wasn't on my contact
list. I could chat with both of them then. However, my friend asked both her
contact and me if it was OK to add me to the chat.

And that's what should be done. When this happens, it's common courtesy to
ask your chat partners, as well as the invitee if it's OK. Only then should
someone be included into a multiple contacts chat.
