Default .dvr-ms file support

I just got my new computer with xp media Center. I can record live T.V. but
there isn't a way that I can find to edit out commercials and burn a DVD. I
went to Windows Movie Maker, which seems like the perfect place to do this
and it says that it doesn't support files from Media Center which are .dvr-ms
files. Does anyone know how I can accomplish what I want to do, or how I can
make Movie Maker accept these files?
