Cache or Speed ??? AMD Athlon 64
I found a deal on 3400+ Athlon 64 cpu's at ewiz.com. Both are $84.46. One is 2.4 ghz with 512 kb cache, The other is 2.2 ghz with 1 mb cache. Which is the better deal? Thanks for any comments, |

See Tom's Hardware site for benchmark comparisons:

Cache or Speed ??? AMD Athlon 64
Will the 1mb of Cache outweigh the 200 mghz difference in Speed? Or, Should I go with the Speed? Thanks for any insight, DD |

Most likely the difference will be too small to notice, so take your pick.

I would go with the Cache........you can always overclock by 200 but you
will never be able to increase the inboard cache. which will help greatly with the speed peter -- "Those are my principles. If you don't like them I have others." "Dave" wrote in message ... Although overclocking was not mentioned in the original post, Peter has a
good point as AMDs are easily overclockable. Just be certain you have the know-how on overclocking. That includes the motherboard and bios options, memory, heatsink and fan, as you are purchasing an OEM version as advertised on ewiz.com. That means you need to buy your own heatsink and fan. Thanks for any comments, Without overclocking it will depend on the application. Some applications will be faster with more cache, others will be faster with a faster CPU. The two CPU's you mention are so close I doubt you would be able to tell the difference wth most applications. -- Kerry MS-MVP Windows - Shell/User http://www.vistahelp.ca/forum/Forum.htm |
