Default play DVDs with win98

I myself have just win98. How would I equip my win98 to play DVDs. I realize
I couldn’t make DVDs, but at least play them. Now, my mother has winXP, which
I use to make DVDs. It will read/write CDs, as well as read DVDs, but it
won’t burn DVDs. But she has agreed to change her ROM drive for one that will
burn DVDs. So I was wondering, could I take that old ROM drive, put it in my
win98, and then be able to play DVDs? I have Windows Media Player, version
6.4. Would I need a Sound Card, too?
