Default Continuous service start error shows in Error Log at every boot-up

The following error shows in my system Error Log at every boot-up:-
"The %OWC_USBEHCD.DeviceDesc% service failed to start due to the following
error: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or
because it has no enabled devices associated with it."
The error also appears in the Event Log.
I have no problems with my system, and all USB devices are operating
normally.
The entry %OWC_USBEHCD.DeviceDesc% appears in the system registry under a
service called "ousbehci". I believe this may have something to do with an
external USB hub, but I dont have one.
I am operating Windows XP Home, SP2. Athlon XP2400. 512 Mb Ram.
Although the error is not causing any apparent system problems, it is an
irritation and I would like to cure it.
I have searched the web (and the Microsoft sites and web pages!)for similar
problems and have found quite a few with the same script, but never a
solution.
I would be very grateful if someone could offer a solution or even some
advice.

Thanks for your input, Nass.
I did disable the USB enhanced host controller, and unfortunately it tripped
out my ADSL modem! Something to do with disabling USB 2.0 support.
I don't have any other USB hubs other than "root hubs" and most of them are
occupied with printer, scanner, joystick etc. so I am a bit wary about
disabling them.
Thanks

It is really connected with your USB, did you install any hardware recently?.
Try to have a look in the Event Viewer and double click the Error Messages
(X) to get more info and you can copy and paste in your next post.
What USB devices might you have that are on power saving?
reinstall your USB drivers, not only for the devices, but your chip set
drivers or drivers for your USB adapter.

Try with clean boot and see if that will help:

Do you have a program photoshop or a camera program installed?

Default Continuous service start error shows in Error Log at every boo

Thanks again Nass.
I must admit I am reluctant to uninstall and reinstall my USB drivers since
all are operating well. I have looked at all aspects of USBs on my system and
can find no problems.
I do have programmes for two cameras installed, which I use when downloading
photos. I have tried both of these today and they are working as they should.
Do you have any thoughts on the "OWC" aspect of the error message? I take
this to be something to do with Microsoft Office, that is " Office Web
Components"
I do have Office 2000 installed but as far as I am aware, do not use the
Office Web Component facility. I don't even know what it does!
Basically I can find no "service" which corresponds to any part of the error
message although, as I have said, the error string appears in the registry
under the service "ousbehci" . I wonder if it is meant to be there.

Hi Jimnic,
Good work on your part, let me ask you first do you have these products or
you had it before and uninstalled?:
VIA Technologies
Giga-Byte Technology
OrangeWare Corporation
USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller Driver
c:\ windows\ system32\ drivers\ ousbehci.sys

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\ ousbehci
OrangeWare USB Enhanced Host Controller Service
Try to rename it in both the Registry and the System32\drivers here to say
ousbehci.old and Reboot do you get the error message or any of your USB
devices/application complain?.
If no joy try the clean boot given earlier in the link.
HTH.

Default Continuous service start error shows in Error Log at every boo

Hi Nass,
I see where you are going with this - OWC stands for OrangeWare Corporation
(developer and provider of drivers).
In answer to your question, yes, I did have a Gigabyte motherboard installed
to my computer until it failed just under a year ago. It was based on Via
chipsets, and was replaced by an Asrock motherboard which also used Via
chipsets. I retained the same operating system and components.
Adjacent to the ousbehci folder in the registry,( and also in the system 32
drivers folder), is a folder called ousb2hub. This folder when opened
contains the line "Orangeware USB 2.0 Root hub Support"
When I place the mouse pointer over the file folders in System 32 Drivers,
it shows the following:-
ousbhub - USB 2.0 Hub Driver. Company:Orangeware Corporation
ousbehcI - USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller Driver. Company: Orangeware
Corporation.
I believe the USB drivers on my system are the generic Microsoft drivers,
having checked in Device Manager.
What I can't say is whether there is anything on my system which depends on
the OrangeWare drivers.

I am a little nervous about editing the Registry as you suggest, since I
have never done this before.
When you say rename the file folder ousbehci, do you mean by right clicking,
and re-typing the name ousbehci.old? Does this work the same in the Registry?

I think we are close to a solution.

Hi Jimnic,
Yes, we are close, try this:
Delete the file from he
C:\Windows\System32\ousbehcI

Also Open the Registry editor and locate the service and remove it from
there ( you can backup only the Key you will edit as reg to the Desktop or my
document if any thing gone wrong you can restore/Import to the same key to
restore it)
Close the Registry editor and Reboot your machine, do you get the error?.
To explain for you why you have because the HDD still keep the old
motherboard drivers on it's system32 and the registry as entry ( orphans) and
I don't why suddenly started nagging you LOL.

Default Continuous service start error shows in Error Log at every boo

Hi Nass,
Can you please be more specific as to how to back up the Registry key before
editing.
Please excuse my ignorance, and nervousness, but I am not used to editing
the Registry.
I have Windows Backup if that helps?

Jimnic

Hi Jimnic,
Yes, we are close, try this:
Delete the file from he
C:\Windows\System32\ousbehcI

Also Open the Registry editor and locate the service and remove it from
there ( you can backup only the Key you will edit as reg to the Desktop or my
document if any thing gone wrong you can restore/Import to the same key to
restore it)
Close the Registry editor and Reboot your machine, do you get the error?.
To explain for you why you have because the HDD still keep the old
motherboard drivers on it's system32 and the registry as entry ( orphans) and
I don't why suddenly started nagging you LOL.

Hi Nass,
I see where you are going with this - OWC stands for OrangeWare Corporation

Hi Jimnic,
Good work on your part, let me ask you first do you have these products or
you had it before and uninstalled?:
VIA Technologies
Giga-Byte Technology
OrangeWare Corporation
USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller Driver
c:\ windows\ system32\ drivers\ ousbehci.sys

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\ ousbehci
OrangeWare USB Enhanced Host Controller Service
Try to rename it in both the Registry and the System32\drivers here to say
ousbehci.old and Reboot do you get the error message or any of your USB
devices/application complain?.
If no joy try the clean boot given earlier in the link.
HTH.

Here is the copy from the Event Log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 21/03/2007
Time: 11:43:21
User: N/A
Computer: J-C4M6Z7SL8YWL6
Description:
The %OWC_USBEHCD.DeviceDesc% service failed to start due to the following
error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it
has no enabled devices associated with it.

Thanks for your input, Nass.
I did disable the USB enhanced host controller, and unfortunately it tripped
out my ADSL modem! Something to do with disabling USB 2.0 support.
I don't have any other USB hubs other than "root hubs" and most of them are
occupied with printer, scanner, joystick etc. so I am a bit wary about
disabling them.
Thanks

The following error shows in my system Error Log at every boot-up:-
"The %OWC_USBEHCD.DeviceDesc% service failed to start due to the following
error: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or

The error also appears in the Event Log.
I have no problems with my system, and all USB devices are operating
normally.
The entry %OWC_USBEHCD.DeviceDesc% appears in the system registry under a
service called "ousbehci". I believe this may have something to do with an
external USB hub, but I dont have one.
I am operating Windows XP Home, SP2. Athlon XP2400. 512 Mb Ram.
Although the error is not causing any apparent system problems, it is an
irritation and I would like to cure it.
I have searched the web (and the Microsoft sites and web pages!)for similar
problems and have found quite a few with the same script, but never a
solution.
I would be very grateful if someone could offer a solution or even some
advice.

Right click My Computer and Select properties, then click on Hardware tab
then click Device manager.
Scroll and locate the USB and click the Plus [+] sign to expand and see
there USB Hub and Disable from running on the System click [OK] after done
your changes.

Run disk cleanUp and delete your temporary internet files and Reboot does
the Error come back?.

Not at all, Click on the Key which is this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\ ousbehci
And then click File and select Export and select the directory you will
export to = either floppy/CD/DVD/ My Documents/Desktop as ( Mykey.reg) for
example and then go ahead with deleting the service from there.
HTH.
Good luck.

Hi Nass,
The edit as per your instructions seems to have been successful.
I have rebooted, and the Error log entry and Event Log entry has not
reappeared.
So far, My USBs seem to be operating normally, but I haven't tried all USB
components yet.
Thanks for your support and your patience.
I have learned a lot under your guidance, and I am very grateful for you help.
I will check the system over the next few days and watch for any problems.

Just letting you know that I too had the exact same problem as described
above and this post helped me fix it!

I believe the cause of the issue was upon upgrading drivers for the
motherboard VIA chipset, the older driver gets "orphaned" resulting in this
problem. SO glad someone else already found and posted the fix!
