The Read Only attribute isn't applicable to folders in XP. If you are having difficulties, please describe them. As a guess, if you can't access some of the files or folders on your hard drive, try taking ownership of them. how to remove writeprotection on folders in XP? (it keeps comi
Hi Malke, thamks for the link about IE7 *thumbs-up-icon*
reg. the read only (you assumed right) my problem is, that when I want to play a game (BF2) the game needs to acces a subfolder in "My Documents" where it stores game progress aso.. But XP wont let the program write data to its folder :-/ I use the default settings in windows, eehr "use simple filesharing" I think its called, so do I still need to take ownership of specifik folders in order to solve the prob? I´ve just installed XP on a new set of harddisks but I´ve havent had this problem before.. I dont know.. I´m just about so tired of trouble in microsoft OS, I could strangle Bill Gates if he was here ;-D "Malke" wrote: Not so great dane :-D wrote: Hi, can anyone tell me how to get rid of the default writeprotection of folders in win xp? I would contact the game mftr. for help with the problem with their software. Normally there should be no issue in a program storing data in a subfolder of My Documents - quite a few programs do this. If you get no help from the game's tech support people, 1) try reinstalling the game; 2) go ahead and take ownership of its folder and set permissions to "Everyone". Since you reference Simple File Sharing, you must have XP Pro. Disable Simple File Sharing and you'll be able to change those permissions easily. See the links I already gave you for that.
