Default XP Shutdown

When I try to shutdown or simply restart my XP Serv P2, it hangs up in
"windows shutting down" mode. I have to turn off tower and system manually.

Is there a fix to this or should I try an earlier restore point.

Tks all

Shutdown problems are normally caused by a program/process that is
refusing to exit gracefully. Very often this is malware so the first
step is to make sure the computer is virus/malware-free:

If the machine is clean, go through this excellent shutdown troubleshooter:

You are a complete ignorant idiot. I am sorry to say that. You are causing more harm that any good. Please stay away until you are capable of knowing how any computer system works from inside out.

GO AWAY ANDREW.

Follow the advice given by Malke for your issue. DO NOT try or do what Andrew has posted. It will create problems that you do not need. Andrew is dangerous with his advice and very NOT knowledgeable

Tks Malke, it did the trick running my anti spyware pgm, I usually do run 2
diff. version every ten days or so anyway. So something must be coming back
after its removal. Getting closer, tks again all who took time to answer.

You're welcome, Bill. If you are getting malware that is respawning, you
might want to go further with the formal malware removal process, including:

You can also check to see if there are targeted removal steps for your
malware he
Bleeping Computer removal how-to's -
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum55.html

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at the first link above (not here, please).

Standard caveat: If the procedures look too complex - and there is no
shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Please be aware that not all local shops
are skilled at removing malware and even if they are, your computer may
be so infested that Windows will need to be clean-installed. Have all
your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop.
