Microsoft Network Protection Agent?
Anyone know what the "Microsoft Network Protection Agent" is? It is in my
"Services.msc" but is disabled. I was working with Yahoo Tech on an issue and he saw that was disabled and wanted to enable it, but I do not know what it is and did not enable it. Any information on it is really appreciated. Thanks charliec |

Any information on it is really appreciated. Network Access Protection Agent (napagent) service details Service name: napagent Description: The Network Access Protection (NAP) agent service collects and manages health information for client computers on a network. Information collected by NAP agent is used to make sure that the client computer has the required software and settings. If a client computer is not compliant with health policy, it can be provided with restricted network access until its configuration is updated. Depending on the configuration of health policy, client computers might be automatically updated so that users quickly regain full network access without having to manually update their computer. Path to executable: C:\windows\System32\svchost.exe -k NetworkService Startup type: Manual I would set the service to startup type = manual Agreed, but to me the bigger question is, what the heck was a "Yahoo tech" doing rummaging around on someone's system? ;-) I think it was a sales of paid support try! I have "My Yahoo" the customized page as my Home Page. The past few days, it is not loading. I was trying to get help from them to resolve the problem and allowed the Tech to look at my computer. I finally disconnected him as he was more into selling a paid support subscription the solving the problem I called about. But was wondering about this item - and the value it provides. And whether it is safe to run. Perfectly safe to set to manual. You might download and do a full scan with Malwarebytes if you are having difficulty with loading your home page. Thanks - if it set for manual - does it do anything or just sits there same as disabled functions? Just trying to figure it out. Thanks again. I have Malwarebytes current paid version. I do not use it for Live Protection - I have Norton Antivirus current paid version for that. I use Malwarebytes to perform manually started scans. I was/am a bit concerned about running 2 Live Protection at the same time. When I run the manual scans (ensuring I have the latest updates for it), it is really not finding anything (yet!). Another subject - what is a good cleanup program for the PC that can ID treats, but allow you to determine what to do with them. I read up on some and they make all the decisions for you and I'm wondering how safe that is? Thanks again charliec |

I know that Yahoo has a for-pay email service, but I wasn't aware that they had a paid "support subscription". Are you sure this was legit? Did they contact you or did you you contact them, and how? It sounds suspiciously like those bogus cold calls claiming to be from "Microsoft" and who then try to convince you that you have viruses and you should pay them to remove them. I called the number provided on the Yahoo.com site. But, your point is well taken. I did not take the paid support and did not allow any removals. But was wondering about this item - and the value it provides. And whether it is safe to run. I'm still wondering about that. The official description of the service is most unenlightening. |

Some description is already provided in the service definition. In services.msc, look at the properties of the NAP service to read its description. Obviously such descriptions are not meant to be an exhaustive instruction guide. You can find a whitepaper and webcast at: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/921070 |
