Default Taskbar Now At The Top Of Screen.

My neighbour came over and asked me if I knew how to get his taskbar
back to the bottom of the screen. I asked him how the hell it got to
the top and he wasn't sure. He's running Xp-3. I have to be honest,
I just don't know. Any help out there?

Right click on a blank spot of the Taskbar and make sure it's unlocked. Grab
a blank spot, not an edge, and drag it to the bottom. Relock it.

Thanks, never had to deal with this myself, so I didn't have a clue.

Although by default the task bar appears on the bottom of the screen,
it can be on any of the sides you prefer it on. To move it from any
side to another, simply click on an unused part of it and drag it
where you want it. Be sure to click *within* it, not on the edge;
clicking on the edge and dragging will resize it, not move it.

It got there almost certainly because he did this accidentally.

If it won't move, it may be locked. In that case, right click on it
and uncheck "Lock the taskbar," then try again.

By the way, with today's wide-screen monitors, I prefer the task bar
on the left or right side of the screen. I think that makes a better
use of screen real estate than having it at the bottom.

Except that when placed at a side, it becomes wider (thicker?), thus
occupying about the same _percentage_ as at the bottom, I think.

It can be made as wide or narrow as desired. I've had mine at the left side
for well over ten years and keep it about 2" - 3" wide so that I can
actually read the names of things that are minimized. It auto hides, uses
no space except when I want it to. I also have a similar one at the right
side for frequently used programs, another skinny one at the bottom which I
use for frequently used internet shortcuts.

The standard, skinny, always in your face one at the bottom is useless IMO.

No, its thickness is completely up to you.

OK, but the _default_ is such that the buttons for running applications
are about the same width as they are when it's at the bottom.
