Window XP SP3 safe mode BSOD issue
I have this consistant BSOD problem when _only_ booting to safe mode in
XP. The system boots into normal mode just fine and works perfectly. It is a duel boot partition with the default Op system as WinXP SP3 and the sub-system is Win7 SP1. Both Op systems run perfectly and event loggings are all showing good responses. I have all the latest drivers and both systems are very well kept. Removal of temp files, old files, etc...are always removed correctly and completely. I have 2 gigs ram, Ati Video, and more, but everything is in tune and temperatures are stable and in check. I have owned the system about 7-8 years now and pride myself on keeping it organized and running at all times. The Safemode BSOD error is really not a big problem with me at this time. I just would like to have this fixed just in case I need to use the limited driver install mode if the system decides to peter out. Booting to safe mode, I hit F8 and then hit safe mode. It changes screen to the driver and sys file installation and rolls to the mup file. After this it ask if I would like to add 2 additional files that support a scsi drive and a mass storage device I think. It acts like it is just about ready to open the safe mode screen with the text on the edges, but pops open a BSOD instead. It will do this same thing every time no matter what choice I pick on the boot mode screen of choices. It will not let me cnt alt del out of the bsod, I have to reset system and then pick normal boot up mode to start up. The entire problem is only in the safe mode booting in WinXP, other then this the system is operating great. I'll post the BSOD image below to view and maybe reveal an answer why safe mode is causing the system stop. All help is appreciated and I'll check back as time permits me. You say WinXP is booting ? 1) Is the WDFLDR.SYS file on your WinXP C: drive ? 2) When you submit that file to www.virustotal.com, does it scan clean ? In terms of the notion of a "subsystem" as you put it, chances are one of your OSes functions as a Boot Manager, offering two OSes to boot from. Windows 7 is probably providing your boot manager (typically, such a function is provided by the more modern OS). It kinda begs the question, exactly what is booting in Safe Mode right now. Do you have two separate partitions for the OSes ? I would have thought that's how they'd be installed. What partitions do you have on that disk ? Paul

I can't tell from the information so far, whether you've using two disks, and one OS per disk. Or have the two OSes on the same disk. If multibooting on the same disk, I'd hope that Windows 7 would use its own partition, and the two OSes aren't on the same partition. (The only Windows 7 I have here, is on a laptop, so I can't do any installation experiments to check to see what happens.) You'll notice your boot.ini doesn't mention Windows 7. Windows 7 doesn't use boot.ini, and has a different scheme. I suspect Windows 7 is the thing that starts to boot first, then Windows 7 presents a boot menu, then from there, you select WinXP. The bootloader is Windows 7 BCD; boot.ini is the bootloader for XP that is not used when Win7's bootloader is present. WDFLDR.SYS is the Vista/Win7 Windows Driver Foundation Kernel-Mode Driver Framework (KMDF) loader driver ( say that 10 times very fast ). @Bradmph - are you using the arrow keys to highlight the XP installation on the boot menu and then pressing F8 to boot it to Safe Mode ? Since the BSODs prevent the OS from loading then it appears that it's actually booting to Win 7. If WDFLDR.SYS was causing the BSODs that would signify that's it's not located on the Win 7 partition as it should never be loading when XP boots - https://www.faultwire.com/file_report/wdfldr.sys.html But, it's only causing BSODs when booting XP to Safe Mode. So ... I concur with Paul's findings ... there may be a conflict occurring with D347PRT.sys that only occurs when XP boots to SM due to one of the drivers being present on a wrong partition. Ok, let see if I can answer everyone and still keep going here to get this fixed. My system was Windows XP for a while and was the only OS. I decided to install Windows 7 Ulitmate with Windows XP as a duel boot system, but on seperate drives. My C:\drive is windows XP and the D:\drive is where Windows 7 resides. WinXp is the main OS, but I can change this easily by making the Win7 the defaulted system if I needed to. For SWAP drives I use 2 additional smaller drives, one for XP and 1 for Win7. I understand about Windows 7 being the main OS even though I have WinXP as default. I remember reading I thought, that if Win7 was installed that it would take over, but let you change the default system later after installation. System bootup is all Windows XP after the OS choice screen appears. This screen asks which operating system I want to enter. I have WinXP as the defaulted system just in case I am away from screen when restarting and the timer runs out. It then goes through the procedures to my desktop unless I hit F8 to enter the WinXP bootup choices where can pick the safemode, etc. C:\WinXP - _Disk_0_ - basic D:\WIN-7 - _Disk_1_ - basic 2 seperate disk, one for each OS. WDFLDR.sys I really researched about this file as well, online. This file has many things it does with other system files, but I did notice though it is a Win7 file and I wondered why it would cause an error during a WinXP safemode bootup. I also checked in the services list to try and see if I had a service changed somehow and making it get upset during a safemode boot, but I found nothing. I thought about rebuilding the file somehow, but as I read ****her in about doing this, I decided that I wasn't ready to perform this yet, lol. D347PRT.sys file is a Daemon Tools file that installs a scsi controller in the device menu when I need to create a CD/DVD rom for mounting an image. For those bin and iso things and disk burning. I can remove it from devices and the system still will create the errors I am presently having. I tried that already. Pressing the F8 key during a boot up is very basic in my case. This only opens the choices in WinXP for recovery stuff and safemode. I could do this blindfolded :.) Virus checks have been done extensively with Vipre, just a note FYI. I will try Pauls bootup idea with the msconfig and see what I come up with. I have also tried to get my system to create a DUMP file. I have checked the settings, but I have not found a dump log yet. I made some more changes in the dump file settings menu which did work before, but have not had time to test it. I wondered if safemode even initializes a dump file to be created while booting into safemode. WDFLDR.sys I really researched about this file as well, online. This file has many things it does with other system files, but I did notice though it is a Win7 file and I wondered why it would cause an error during a WinXP safemode bootup. I also checked in the services list to try and see if I had a service changed somehow and making it get upset during a safemode boot, but I found nothing. I thought about rebuilding the file somehow, but as I read ****her in about doing this, I decided that I wasn't ready to perform this yet, lol. D347PRT.sys file is a Daemon Tools file that installs a scsi controller in the device menu when I need to create a CD/DVD rom for mounting an image. For those bin and iso things and disk burning. I can remove it from devices and the system still will create the errors I am presently having. I tried that already. Pressing the F8 key during a boot up is very basic in my case. This only opens the choices in WinXP for recovery stuff and safemode. I could do this blindfolded :.) Virus checks have been done extensively with Vipre, just a note FYI. I will try Pauls bootup idea with the msconfig and see what I come up with. I have also tried to get my system to create a DUMP file. I have checked the settings, but I have not found a dump log yet. I made some more changes in the dump file settings menu which did work before, but have not had time to test it. I wondered if safemode even initializes a dump file to be created while booting into safemode. I tried a quick search on that one, because it seemed goofy, and I got no matches (except for your posting). I'd submit that one to virustotal.com too. Some malware, creates randomly named files, and if you run them through a search engine, the lack of a hit in the search engine, is your first clue you're infected. Paul

Window XP SP3 safe mode BSOD issue
That was funny Paul, I feel special now being only one in the world. LOL Amyway, I ran ccleaner,COMODO reg cleaner and TDSS rootkit removing tool by Kaspersky and it has seemed to clean some of the mess. I couldn't find a0wl41c8.SYS file afterwards. I ran a new log and posted it here. I tried to boot into safe mode once again and I do not get the error anymore, now it just loops back to the operating system choices screen and continues as I pick my choices. When it asks if I want to install the d347prt.sys file upon safemode I hit esc to not allow it to.
