I got this working using the "Print Screen" key.
But it wants to save cut-out images as PNG files only. How can I get it to save as PDF and JPG files too? |

If you look in the a.c.o.w10 archives, I think this was asked before. I think, as I recall, that you can certainly do what you want, but, most likely not the "way" that you most likely want. What we all would want is a simple switch, sort of like this: Format_to_save_Windows+PrintScreen = jpeg Format_to_save_Windows+PrintScreen = pdf" Format_to_save_Windows+PrintScreen = bmp etc. What you can do is either remap the key, to bring up a snapshot tool (of which there are billions), or, just use something like Irfanview instead. I am writing this off the cuff - so I may have forgotten a lot of the details which were covered in previous threads, which you can find in the archives http://alt.comp.os.windows-10.narkive.com |

The Snip N Sketch doesn't even have a Print option that I could find. I tried a variety of control-P, alt-P, Win-P and so on, to no good effect. I can understand not "saving" in PDF mode, but other options would be "Exporting" or "Printing". PDFs need a default page size and orientation, to provide a scale. https://i.postimg.cc/s21Ycgvy/snip_n_sketch_app.gif I suppose they don't want to put a "Ribbon" on top of the thing :-/ I must be getting old, because these designs baffle me. What is this for ? What "niche" is it filling ? They could have added screen snips to "Paint 3D" and had a whale of a product (a three dimensional whale). The design would then "make about as much sense". My handwriting is terrible, and I don't think I want to see my handwriting used for annotation purposes. That would give me a migraine every time I looked at it. Maybe this product is a subtle dig to turn on the "inking subsystem" ? You can see here, they're prepared to develop one program after another like this. It's like "I got this Pen For Christmas". https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/...se-windows-ink Paul |

The Irfanview image view will also allow you to select how you would like to save the image https://www.irfanview.com/ -- Web based forums are like subscribing to 10 different newspapers and having to visit 10 different news stands to pickup each one. When it's installed and running, when you press The PrtScrn key, it copies the image to the clipboard and brings up PrintKey 2000, when lets you save it in any format you want. |

IMHO, it would be nice if we can figure out how to have a small-footprint Irfanview background process always invisibly running, such that the default Control+F11 snapshot tool would _always_ be available. |

This seems like a nice suggestion, but it would always be helpful to have a link to the _canonical_ site (since lot's of duplicates abound). Q: Where is the canonical location (and version?) for PrintKey 2000? A: ? Googling, I first found this from PC Magazine, which doesn't bode well: https://www.pcworld.com/article/231643/printkey_2000.html "Note: This file is no longer unsupported by the vendor and has been removed from PC World's Downloads library" "Sometimes you just need to do a simple thing--like making a hard-copy printout of your screen. But if you hit the Print Screen key in Windows, it won't actually print the screen to a printer. Instead, it will copy the screen into the clipboard, from where you have to paste it into a graphics-capable program and then print it. Print Screen (as the name suggests) cuts out the middleman: once the small, free program is installed and the No Dialog mode is enabled, it will print out the computer screen to the default printer whenever you hit the print screen key...." Apparently, it "might" not work well on Windows 10... https://davidvielmetter.com/tips/printkey-2000-an-oldie-but-a-goodie/ "NOTE: Printkey 2000 does not work well on Windows 10. I get lots of comments about this, but there is no fix because Printkey is simply too old to work well on Windows 10. The good news is that there are lots of free alternatives to Printkey. One of them is Greenshot. Greenshot is a versatile screen capture utility similar to Printkey that's available for free." http://getgreenshot.org/downloads/ |
