Is it still possible to upgrade from Win7 Pro 64bit to Win10 Pro 64bit for
free legally?
If so, how?
Thanks,
Buffalo

I have heard that. This is for a friend and I am hoping there is a low cost
or still a free way to do it.
Thanks,

There really is no official way to do it. I have read, but not tested,
that if you do an upgrade to Windows 10 it will accept you entering your
existing Windows 7 license key and grant you a digital Win10 license:

https://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-...ws-10-upgrade/

Of course this is as of several months ago and that loophole may have been
closed. If you want to try this it is of course at your own peril! (I
would do an image backup of the system first to be on the safe side.)

It's not official and I have not tried it myself but I have heard that
if you have a retail license and use that number when asked for a W10
license number that the upgrade servers just might go ahead and upgrade
your machine to a licensed W10 machine.

If your friend has a blank hard drive or SSD it might be worth a try to
pull the original W7 boot disk and plug one of them in, then give it a
try. What do you have to loose if it don't work but a little time.

This link might give you more information on the subject as well:

https://www.howtogeek.com/272201/all...s-10-for-free/

The article the link takes you to is from January 2018 so it's always
possible Microsoft has changed things since then.

Anyone can use Linux Mint Mate. He will find it a lot easier than
fighting Windows 10.

Thanks,

* I downloaded Microsoft's Media Creation Tool first:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

* Launched the Tool, followed the prompts and downloaded an .iso file
which I then burned to a DVD.

* Inserted the DVD into my PC's bay (while Windows 7 was running!),
launched file "setup.exe", followed the prompts, and Windows 10 Home
got installed. (All my personal files are still there!) PS: It is
important not to boot up the PC with the DVD and do the installation
that way because it will erase everything on the HD! Just insert the
DVD while Windows 7 is running and launch "setup.exe".
