Default Classic Start Menu

*If* I go to the *Classic Start *Menu* is there a way of removing *Log off
whoever* permanently?

I am sole user & administrator and I would like to get rid of this junk

Default Classic Start Menu

Items in these two folders will appear at the top of the
Classic Start Menu

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu
and
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Start Menu

I.e. where the Windows Update shortcut is.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Default Classic Start Menu

98. Enable/Disable LogOff - Classic or New
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

If XP Pro...
You can use the Group Policy editor (Gpedit.msc) under the
following location:
User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Start Menu and Taskbar

Two settings to look at.

Set this one to: Not Configured.
Add Logoff to the Start Menu Properties
[[Adds the "Log Off username" item to the Start menu and prevents users
from removing it.

If you enable this setting, the Log Off username item appears in the Start
menu. This setting also removes the Display Logoff item from Start Menu
Options. As a result, users cannot remove the Log Off username item from
the Start Menu.

If you disable this setting or do not configure it, users can use the
Display Logoff item to add and remove the Log Off item.

This setting affects the Start menu only. It does not affect the Log Off
item on the Windows Security dialog box that appears when you press
Ctrl+Alt+Del.

Note: To add or remove the Log Off item on a computer, click Start, click
Settings, click Taskbar and Start Menu, click the Start Menu Options tab,
and then, in the Start Menu Settings box, click Display Logoff.

Also, see "Remove Logoff" in User Configuration\Administrative
Templates\System\Logon/Logoff.]]

Set this to: Enabled
Disable Logoff on the Start Menu
[[Removes the "Log Off username" item from the Start menu and prevents
users from restoring it.

If you enable this setting, the Log Off username item does not appear in
the Start menu. This setting also removes the Display Logoff item from Start
Menu Options. As a result, users cannot restore the Log Off username item
to the Start Menu.

If you disable this setting or do not configure it, users can use the
Display Logoff item to add and remove the Log Off item.

This setting affects the Start menu only. It does not affect the Log Off
item on the Windows Security dialog box that appears when you press
Ctrl+Alt+Del, and it does not prevent users from using other methods to log
off.

Tip: To add or remove the Log Off item on a computer, click Start, click
Settings, click Taskbar and Start Menu, click the Start Menu Options tab
and, in the Start Menu Settings box, click Display Logoff.

See also: "Remove Logoff" in User Configuration\Administrative
Templates\System\Logon/Logoff.]]

Or edit the registry...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\
Policies\Explorer
Value Name: StartMenuLogOff
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: 0 or 1
0 = Log Off is displayed
1 = Log Off not displayed
