Fonts in Win10
I installed an additional ttf font in Win-10 by dragging it from its
folder to the font window, together with two additional font families. They show up in the font window. However they do not show in the drop-downs of any application. I have not found an explanation or technique that remedies that. -- Mint 19.1, kernel 4.15.0-45-generic, Cinnamon 4.0.9 running on an AMD Phenom II X4 Black edition. |

Please watch this video and do it exactly like what it says? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnFfbk8J940 Don't try to be any cleverer than what you are. Sometimes it is better to be humble and accept that you don't have the necessary intelligence to use Windows 10. You have more problems with machines than any of the less intelligent people like you posting here. I remember your name very well. However they do not show in the drop-downs of any application. It shouldn't be necessary, but shouldn't isn't the same as doesn't. Maybe the application is filtering out certain kinds of fonts, for example, proportional spaced ones. Maybe the font is corrupt. Try uninstalling it and rep-installing a known good verion. |

Maybe you could install AMP Font Viewer and track down the name and location of your lost font. Installed fonts don't always have the same name as their common name and may only have an abbreviation of the original name. In the absence of you supplying a name for your 'lost' font, I am reluctant to play guessing games as what to look for. |

Double click the font file, from the menu at the top choose install TTF. Try uninstalling it and rep-installing a known good version. Before posting here, I had of course tried the regular routes. They all worked for all but one font. This was Arial Light, not a regular default font but one which I purchased during the Windows 98 era as an Adobe Type 1 and converted later to a ttf type. It played well in Windows 95 and XP but although it shows up in the font window under the control panel it will not appear in the font drop downs in typically, Word and Excel. Because I run both XP and Win-10 as virtual machines under Linux (beyond you Good Guy), I can continue to successfully print from XP. Unfortunately under XP I have Office 2000 which has a footer flaw. If I page name with say page 1 of 10 (using field names), Word 2000 does not honour the page count and you get page 1 of 1, 2 of 2. Under Windows 10 I have Office 2003 which corrects that but is horrible in other ways, including not resolving my favourite font! Again what I omitted to mention is that I was compelled to install Win-10 64-bit and uninstall Win-10 32 bit which had been working fine. Oh well, computers. Change rarely seems to equate with progress, despite the exaggerated claims. We just seem to exchange one set of problems for another. -- Mint 19.1, kernel 4.15.0-45-generic, Cinnamon 4.0.9 running on an AMD Phenom II X4 Black edition. |

As so often happens, after posting I came across a www exchange on the
same subject and got the solution. Negotiate to the .pfm variant of the Adobe Type 1 file (from Windows), right click and select install and Bob's yer Uncle. Whether this will work in Windows 11 et seq remains to be seen. Thank you for all the advice. Never wasted. This suggests then, that the conversion did not fill out some metadata in the output font format, and it's not registering (or able to be used properly) as a result. Try your font conversion with another utility ? https://stackoverflow.com/questions/...-to-otf-or-ttf The Arial MT in some of the downloads, would stand for Monotype. Which is where the font might originally have come from. However "Arial Light" isn't listed as such here. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/typ...ont-list/arial Maybe it's Arial MT Standard Light or something ? Paul |

I remember that I had to purchase two but didn't need the second because it was an Adobe version of Arial Black. Anyway, the Adobe type 1 Arial MT Light is doing its stuff so I'm happy.
