As I said above "this is only a geuss"!!!

Result:

RegSver32
Sfc.dll was loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.
This file can not be registered.

Nice try though. Thanks for the effort.

Steve

Right click on the sfc.dll in \windows\system32.
Look at properties.
What is the version number?

Dave

I'll check tomorrow when I get back to work.

5.1.2600.2180 for SP2, but looking at an old SP1 CD, it looks like SP1
didn't change the sfc files between Gold & SP1.

Ooh! I think my SP1 CD is just the plain old SP1 variety, so MS MAY
have changed the sfc files version for the "a" version. It would be
nice if MS had some pages detailing each variety of XP's files and the
file versions, but I can't seem to find anything like that.

With the tens of thousands of web pages they have a few more couldn't
hurt.

Hi

There is no change in the sfc files version number between SP1
and SP1a, the only difference between those two is the removal
of MS Java VM in SP1a.

I believe the only difference between SP1 and 1a is the absense of MS
JVM in 1a.

It would be
nice if MS had some pages detailing each variety of XP's files and the
file versions, but I can't seem to find anything like that.

It'd be even nicer if they had some decent search engine built into
their sites. I've had better luck searching for MS KBs using Google than
directly searching on the KB site.

Please! MS couldn't search itself out of a wet paper bag!
