Default Cannot uninstall Lexmark Z45

We had a Lexmark X73 all-in-one (separate horror story)

We removed it and its drivers using teh Lexmark clean
utility.

We installed Lexmark's driver for the Z45...USB
cable 'ponged' when plugged in but cannot communicate.

We deleted the driver but....the printer icon remains in
the print / fax window with "offline" and a grey out
check mark.

We installed the generic driver (SE) also from Lexmark's
site. It did not work but we were able to delete it and
remove the driver...almost....in the printer server
properties / drivers box both the regular and the generic
drivers show as being installed. When I try to remove
them I get a pop up that says cannot remove because the
printer is in use. There is no print job!

I have REGEDIT'd all references to Lexmark to the trash.
I cannot delete the files in windows\system32
\drivers\spool\w32x86. There is one folder called "3"
that is locked.

Other than "USE HP PRINTERS" can anyone suggest how I
completely remove all traces of the LExmark z45. (there
is no Lexmark clean utility that I can find)

Thanks muchly!

I had similar problems with my x73. Even the x85 isn't working all
that well - I have to use a specific USB port on my Dell - if I don't
XP-Pro insists on reinstalling it.

It sounds like you've done or tried to do everything the techs at
Lexmark told me to do. Except one: deleting references to Lexmarks
in the Print Server Properties.

1. Staret-Printers and Faxes
2. File-Server Properties
3. Drivers Tab

There are likely to be references to the Lexmark in the installed
printer drivers box. Get rid of them. That should be enough to
convince XP that no Lexmark had ever been connected so that you can
start with a 'clean' install.

Give the folks at the tech support number a call. I was pleasantly
surprised at just how helpful they were. The battery in my cordless
handset gave up before the tech did!

Beyond any of this have you tried the 'System Restore' process?

Good Luck
Regards,
Kurt

Thanks Kurt. two versions of the Z45 driver do show up
under that tab but when I try to delete them I get a
message that the printer is currently in use and it will
not allow deletion.

Still trying....
