I had been running DNS-11 on XP for a few years. I hadn't used it much
because its main use was in Word using tables where it became tortuous.

I am now using simple paragraphs and decided t install it in Win-10.
I exported my profile from XP and imported today into Win-10.

In win-10 it behaved appallingly. Slow, no little prompt symbol and no
coherent recognition. I would have expected it behave as in XP, given that
the profiles were identical. I am going to have to use XP for yet another
application that doesn't work in Win-10.

If anybody ha anything constructed to offer other than an extension to my
rant, please feel free.

Alan

Turn off Cortana.

And remember, that Microsoft has already committed one sin.
There are four versions of Win10, and on one of them, they
added "frame serving" to webcams. This means a webcam camera
can serve frames to two applications at the same time. Since
webcams also have sound, it implies the potential for frame
serving of sound as well.

Now, just imagine, for the sake of argument, they added
that feature to the sound system. Cortana sucking your speech
into the Cloud to detect "Hey Cortana". And at the same
time, Dragon Natural Speaking thinking it has exclusive
usage of the microphone.

Experiments you can try:

1) Unplug the network cable, reboot, test Dragon Natural Speaking 11.
2) Turn off Cortana, reboot, do your test.

Because Microsoft has implemented this "snooping" idea into
the OS design, now it means we have to add extra debug
steps to figure stuff out.

"Fix Webcam Issues in Windows 10 Anniversary Update by Disabling Frame Server Mode"

http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/we...yuys-standard/

# On a 64 bit system, this covers the 64 bit part.
# On a 32 bit system, this covers the 32 bit part.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Media Foundation\Platform
EnableFrameServerMode DWORD 0

# On a 64 bit system, add this one as well, as it covers the 32 bit part
$ [best guess on my part...]

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\ Windows Media Foundation\Platform
EnableFrameServerMode DWORD 0

*******

And I just found another one for you to try. This is more likely
to be it.

"Microphone / Voice sounds low and distorted after upgrading to Windows 10"

http://feedback.screencast-o-matic.c...rticles/693249

"1. Right click on the Sound icon on your bottom right.
2. Click on Recording devices
3. Right click on the microphone.
4. Click on the Properties
5. Click on Enhancements tab ---- Um, yeah...
6. Check the 'Disable' box inside the box.
7. Click 'Ok'
"

Did you disable Cortana in Windows 10? I doubt you could understand if
multiple people spoke to you at the same time.

Sites more focused on Nuance products:
https://www.nuance.com/about-us/contact-us.html
http://nuance.custhelp.com/
http://nuance-community.custhelp.com/pages/home

I did not see "Dragon Naturally Speaking" as a forum or listed at their
web site as a currently available product. I did see Dragon Anywhere.
Looks like "Naturally Speaking" got dropped from the product title to
become listed as "Anywhere", "Home", "Premium", and "Professional". Yet
https://www.nuance.com/dragon/dragon...e-edition.html shows
"Naturally Speaking" on the box cover.

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_NaturallySpeaking, DNS 11 did
not list Windows 8 or 10 as supported. Windows 8 support wasn't added
until DNS 12. Windows 10 support wasn't added until DNS 13.

Try using Cortana with a standard word processor.

I have been using Dragon NaturallySpeaking for at least 15
years, for dictation and automation (voice-activated
scripting/macroing). Currently using version 13, but have
used prior versions in Windows 10. No problem. I believe the
common advice is to make a new profile. You should be able to
import a custom vocabulary without problem. But you should
make a new profile. Not sure if it matters if you are not
using the third-party scripting aids, but during set up you
might also try Advanced options and change the "Bestmatch"
setting down from V to IV. Those of us who use the
third-party scripting utilities get lag if we do not do that.
Also, make sure you have installed any updates from whoever
owns NaturallySpeaking nowadays. Also, be sure to install DNS
browser add-ons. Proper functioning of those has helped
greatly in my browsers.

Try that stuff first, then try upgrading to version 13 or
higher.

Anybody who is capable of using DNS for dictation should
DEFINITELY look into using it for scripting. Speech activated
scripting is AMAZING. And I'm not talking about the Advanced
version rendition of scripting. I am talking about the
third-party utilities that we use, as seen on the VoiceCoder
Yahoo page.

Thank you for all your advice. I've made notes.
