Default Optical drive auto-off on Lenovo laptop

I've searched online but with no success.

My Lenovo laptop worked very well under Windows 7 but when I upgraded to
Windows 10 (and Lenovo did not certify that this model would be
appropriate for a W10 upgrade) I acquired a new problem. After a period
of time, maybe a few hours, the optical drive (DVD drive) powers off and
refuses to power on again unless I reboot the machine.

A suggestion that I disable Lenovo power management didn't work because
the problem remains. There actually now seems to be no way of accessing
Lenovo's power settings, only the Windows 10 power settings which don't
offer an option for powering off the optical drive.

Any suggestions?

Look in Device Manager, may have something. Check for a new driver,
never can tell !

Tried all that.

I'm thinking there ought to be a way of tweaking the Registry to switch
off optical drive auto power off. Anyone know?

Have you Googled the model number of Lenovo Laptop
or the make and model number of the DVD drive, to see
what "properties" the hardware has.

While it is possible for SATA hardware to drop out of sight
due to link state, that shouldn't be happening with Win10 at
the helm. So I'd be investigating the exact hardware details,
to see if a "quirk" is involved. A quirk is an abnormal behavior,
for which the generic Microsoft driver has not provided special
consideration.

Things follow standards for a reason, and the ability to control
all of them with generic drivers, is part of that.
