Obviously it's a highly controversial upgrade, maybe it's best to not
ever upgrade to it, but Microsoft is already talking about the 1904
upgrade. I haven't been offered this upgrade yet. Microsoft usually
doesn't allow an upgrade between two non-adjacent versions. Just
concerned that I may get stuck on 1803 forever, or I'm going to be
offered the 1809 just weeks before 1904 is offered to me, and I'd have
to go through two major upgrades soon after each other.

Another update, Microsoft just all of a sudden made 1809 available to me
through the normal update procedures, and it installed it without any
problems (much to my surprise)! I don't know why when it did it through
the Update process it worked, but didn't work when I tried it through
manual update process?

I would surmise that they fixed something that they haven't made a lot of
noise about between the time you downloaded th;e manual update and when
they sent you the update. Just be glad it updated. I never did get 1803 to
load, either from Microsoft or if I did it myself. I finally just went
ahead and manually loaded 1809, since Microsoft wouldn't give it to me
until I updated to 1803. To quote a software suport tech I knew long ago,
"Works fine, lasts long time!"

The Windows Update version "stages" drivers in advance,
if they're missing.

The DVD one doesn't. It backfills later with driver downloads
if it feels the need. For example, the installation might want to
upgrade the video card driver, to the latest flavor of WDDM.

If you have an unsupported video card, you might want to try the DVD.

The approach of the two is "mostly similar", but there are some
tiny differences. The Windows Update one looks at the versions
of stuff, and "downloads a thousand tiny packages". And that
adds up to 4GB of stuff. Whereas the DVD packs what it thinks
you need, into the ISO. Would the software lineups be identical ?
Who really knows. You would hope both would install 17763.1,
and the WU one should not be "racing ahead" when it does
the OS Upgrade. To get to .500 or whatever, should be another
500MB download.

It's because you are so stupid that you don't want to accept the fact
that you are completely idiot and why you are allowed to sit in front of
a computer is beyond anybody's wild imagination.

We have told you may times that you are an idiot and posting here and
writing something like what is quoted only confirms this point.

Now go and blow yourself up so that you can reach allah before any
infidels on this newsgroup!!. that is what all stupid black bearded
nutters do. For them allah is everything.

My Win10s are still on 1803. As I see it, they work reliably
and as a result I also can work. If a newer version such as
1904 brings something to the table that I can't do without, I'd
get a computer known to be compatible with that version. But, I
don't see anything like that in 1809, so...

I find it to be more stable.

More stable than what?

Than 1803, what else, hot shot?

Given the exponentially wide range of hardware, firmware and
system configurations I doubt that there is a general stability
factor between any one Win10 version and all of them.

It's more stable on my machine.

But like the dip**** said in another post, that "more stable could be
my imagination".
