Appearance problem after using power point projector

Yesterday I used my laptop to do a power point
presentation. Ever since then, my icons on my desktop
appear bigger as well as items in my internet explorer.
I've checked font size in IE and that's not the problem.
I've tried changing resolution for the desktop, as well as
other things, and nothing seems to work. I had nice,
small icons before, now they take up my entire desktop.
Anyone know how I can get my original desktop and IE back?
