Install Program Does Not Recognize i386 Folder
My hard drive died on me in an old computer. I took a second hard drive that
was in this computer, made it the master, and reinstalled Windows on this drive. During the installation process, a window comes up entitled "Files Needed". The message in this window is, "Some files on Windows XP Service Pack 1 CD are needed. Insert Windows XP Service Pack 1 CD into the drive selected below, then click OK." In the window below, the drive is listed as "D:\i386, which is the drive I have the Windows XP CD in at the moment. When I click OK nothing happens. I have checked the CD and there is an i386 folder present on the CD. I have also tried copying the file to another location, but the installation program still cannot access it. The only way to get past this point in the install process is to hit the Cancel button, then the installation will proceed until I run into this same problem a second time. However, after the installation process ends I find that I have no Internet Explorer installed and no icons on the desktop at all. This means that other programs also failed to install because the install program could not access the i386 folder on the CD. Can anyone tell me why installation program cannot access D:\i386 so that I can get a correct reinstall? Any help would be appreciated. -- ) |
