Enlarging system partition?
I got myself a new, larger hard disk and transferred the data of my old
system disk to it using a disk imager. That worked fine (i.e. I am now already working on that new disk), but that only gave me a 1:1 copy, i.e. I still need to enlarge the system partition to make use of the yet unallocated space. Does WinXP have any tool to enlarge the system partition that it has booted from? I have an old version of PartitionMagic, but it reports errors on my disk and I read, that - since PM hasn't been developed further since years - it might have problems with nowadays disk sizes - so I am hesitant to use it, since I obviously don't want to scramble my data. What is a good (and preferably free or at least cheap) alternative to enlarge my system partition? Michael |

Using XP's Disk Management will destroy existing data. Hiren's BootCD
contains all the tools you'll ever need. Or want. You are going to receive all lot of recommendations but this is the tool you want, see the info page: Hiren's BootCD 9.6 124 MB (Freeware) Info: http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/15018547...BootCD.9.6.rar ju.c "Michael Moser" wrote in message ... A good imaging software would also have allowed you to resize the destination partition. Acronis True Image Home does just that. I've used it to move my laptop drive from 80 to 120 gig drives. But then this is water over the dam. |

For most of my image/partition work I'm always using BootIt: http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/boo...generation.htm It's actually a boot manager, but also a partition/imaging tool. It's pretty small and installs to a floppy (or bootable CD), and even the trial version is able to resize/slide partitions. -- /klaus |

Enlarging system partition?
Hello,
Like all things Linux, GParted Live is free and can work on NTFS volumes as well. It's a CD image you can download and burn which has the GParted partition managing software on it. Here's a link - http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php Later, Ray Parrish Michael Moser wrote: I got myself a new, larger hard disk and transferred the data of my old system disk to it using a disk imager.
