Default How do I turn off an option that runs every time

How do I turn off an option that runs every time I plug my phone into
the computer for charging?

Every time I plug the phone into the computer to charge, it asks what I
want to do, and for years I chose what might as well be called "nothing,
but charge". For once I chose Copy photos. It brought up some MS
built-in function that didn't work, and now it does that every time I
plug the phone in.

For a file manager, I use xplorer2, and the phone shows up there, and
"Import Photos" is an option, but which option to use is not an option.

I made the mistake of unpinning the file manager that came with win10
from the task bar, and now I can't remember its name. In the past, that
had more power, in modest ways, (and less power in other ways) than the
one I usually used.

On my phone (android) there is a setting that allows the connection to
be Charge Only and it doesn't trigger windows at all.. If I need/want
to connect for transfers, I change it back.

With the phone plugged into USB... (unlock) click on USB icon at the
top which will open it's defaults..

WinKey Settings Devices AutoPlay Choose AutoPlay Defaults

Worked great. Thanks. Thanks all.

I had looked at Settings and noted 3 things under Devices, but the
summary page didn't list autoplay.

So I get to the page and there are 3** entries, removable drive (which I
guess means USB drives), memory cards, and the phone. I set the first
two to two diifferent file managers and the phone to "do nothing".
Interestingly, Photos wasn't even in the list for the phone, even though
Photos is what opened!!

**Except when I close the screen and reopen it it now has 5 entries, the
origninal 3 plus a second entry for the same phone and Apple Ipad, even
though I didnt' connect anything new.

The first two are the way I left them, Apple Ipad is set to choose a
default (of 8 options.) I have an ipad someone gave me but I've never
connected it to the computer!! So why is it on the list? Maybe I
should connect it?

There are two entries for the phone, one set to Photos and the other
seet to Choose a Default. Maybe there are two because I've connected
the phone with its usb set to Charge and also** to Transfer Files. But
it sure is confusing. Changing them both to Take no Action.

**That doesn't explain why Ipad showed up when it didnt' show up 20
minutes earlier (no windows updates in the last 20 minutes). or why it
showed up at all since it's never been connected.

Thanks. Before you try to solve each step I have below, you should know
that I did turn it off with Jonathan's directiosn.

But for the record: Maybe because I have a Xiaomi, it doesnt' work that
way. I have Android 7 and it normally connects in Charge Only, but
Windows 10 still notices that I've connected it. Photos starts but it
says it doesn't work, and offers Try Again, and iirc Cancel.

So I change Charge Only to Transfer photos (PTP), and it says the same
thing, but by this time I notice greyed in the background are a bunch of
my pictures, but none later than this past October.

So I change it to Transfer Files (no initials given) and this time it
tries to do it for a while, but transfers no photos, even though I have
about 10 new ones. So, I'm ready to go back to my old method using
MyPhoneExplorer, even thought it's not automatic.

Photos is interesting however. It claims to let me search for 4
categories, [a name used sometimes for my neighborhood, but not by me],
table, house, animal, zoo, and text. Well, table was there a few
minutes ago, but it's gone now. And I actually do have a lot of
pictures of animals taken at a zoo. (It finds 50 of them taken in 2014,
but I hhave more taken at another zoo in 2018 and probably 2011, all on
this computer and it doesn't find them.) I look a few minutes later
and under Find Things it has grey, green, and ducks!!, but not the other
categories. It does find one picture of ducks, although I took 3 others
in 2018. You can type in categories. This could come in handy, but ,
but no selection is even close to 100% accurate, false positives and
false negatives.

If I need/want
to connect for transfers, I change it back.

It might go back to charge only when I turn off or restrart the phone

With the phone plugged into USB... (unlock) click on USB icon at the
top which will open it's defaults..

I will take a look at it. I have never understood the bottom right
quarter of hte xplorer2 screen!!

"Import Photos" is an option, but which option to use is not an option.

I made the mistake of unpinning the file manager that came with win10

Aha. Other than one option each specifically replated to the program,
File Explorer and Xplorer2 gave exactly the same options for the phone.

In the past either PowerDesk didnt' show the phone at all and Windows
Explorer did, so I've continued to have higher expectations from the one
that comes with Windows. But maybe that time is over.
