November 2014 Windows 8.1 Update Rollup

That said, my download counter sat on 4% for quite a while (5~10 min?), then jumped up to 60% and worked it's way gradually up to 90% where it stopped for 5 (or so) more minutes before finally completing the download and beginning to install. I don't think I've ever seen one of these count down indicators ever work really well. I sometimes wonder why they bother. I didn't time it but the whole thing took quite a bit longer than your typical average little update. I think patience is the key here. I suspect that it may only update the percentage counter when a file has completed its download. So a lot of small files may look like a relatively well reported download but a few big files may make the whole thing look as though it is stuck. As you say, not a great deal of use. November 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2: https://support2.microsoft.com/kb/3000850 See the article for new features and improvements. Do you have to be logged in with a Microsoft account in order to install this? Seems to me that I was logged in with my local account when I upgraded to 8.1, so I don't know if that makes any difference or not. That's the only reason I can think of for the continual failure of this rollup. Nope, never mind, that's not it. Hi, SCTom Is your Antivirus program AVAST. There are some reported issues that the update fails when AVAST is installed. See https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=160717.0 http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...5-3ae1a72b0b1a No, I'm using AVG. I'll try turning it off and see it that makes a difference. Nope, that didn't help either. -- SC Tom |

AFAIKS, there is no problem but my machine is pretty much clean in that I don't normally install any crap for fun. My anti-virus is McAfee and it was on when I installed the patch manually. I never switch off anti-virus.. If for some reason, the patch doesn't install because of the anti-virus then you should start asking questions why. What is in the patch that anti-virus is stopping it from installing. The second half was done automatically by selecting just that update for my machine. The order of installation is as follows: Windows8.1-KB2919442-x64.msu must but you might already have it on your system Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64.msu must but you might already have it on your system Windows8.1-KB3000850-x64.msu I didn't bother with others. |

Or if not the rollup in its entirety, perhaps the functional equivalent in multiple smaller pieces? |

November 2014 Windows 8.1 Update Rollup
Hi, Char.
Will this not also be available via Windows Update at some point? Yes, of course. In fact, WU has already downloaded it for me and, when I clicked the button, installed it on my computer, running Windows 8.1 Pro w/Media Center, on November 19, two days ago. For several years now, my WU setting hasn't changed. It is still, "Download updates but let me choose whether to install them." This has always worked very well for me. And I very seldom choose to NOT install any of them. I can't make head nor tails of the "explanation" that is always offered, anyhow. (Sounds like boilerplate that seldom says anything informative - or specific to the current update.) If I install one and it doesn't work, I can blame Microsoft; if I don't install a recommended update and my computer dies, "I've got only me to blame 'cause Mama tried", as Merle Haggard sang. This worked just as well, and in the same way, when I was running Win7. When Patch Tuesday is coming, I often have it Check for Updates before I get the automatic download, sometimes even a day or so ahead of time. I just accept and install the available updates.
