Just a comment. No response necessary.

In sp2 beta,
Two services have to be active in xp sp2 to be able to manually use
windows update.

In services
Automatic Updates must be set to automatic &
Background Intelligent Transfer Service must also be set to automatic.

I hope they fix this when the final decide to release sp2 service
pack.


I also notice some new services
Dcom Service process launcher
DHCP Client
Route and Remote Access.

I have no idea if it safe to disable the above service or what they
do.
