Default DSL prevents stand by mode

Subject: stand by mode while connected to dsl
From: "Tom" Sent: 4/3/2003

Thanks for the feedback but DSL still prevents computer
from going to stand by while connected. I followed your
procedure, as
it turns out, that's what dell did two nights ago and it
still does not work. The computer will not go into stand
by while connected to DSL! I think there's something
about DSL (ppope?? protocol) vs. cable (DCHP) that's the
problem. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi, Tom -

Here's whatcha do:

1. While logged on as someone with administrator

rights,
right-click "My Computer" and select "Manage".

2. Open Device Manager and click the "+" sign next
to "Network Adapters".

3. Right-click the entry for your network card and
select "Properties"

4. Under the "Power Management" tab, uncheck the box
that says "Allow this device to bring the computer out

of
standby".

good luck!

I have a new dell 8250 running windows xp home

edition.
The problem is the computer will not automatically go
into stand by mode while connected to DSL.

Is this problem related to BIOS power management settings? Had a situation
where two PCs connected together prevented each other shutting down because
the BIOS power management settings said to wake up on activity on the LAN.
