Can anybody please tell me what to do in order to use the video and audio
conferencing facilities of windows messenger v 4.7. I have a Belkin F5D6230-3 router and Windows XP operating system. I understand it has something to do with NAT and firewall but cannot get it to work at present. Thanks |

Belkin Router and Windows Messenger Help required
Greetings Martin,
Unfortunately, the Belkin router does not support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) -- which is required for Messenger voice/video connections to be made through a router (or other device that uses NAT). However, using a third party utility called DirectTalk, you may be able to get around this: http://www.easyfp.com/msn-messenger-directtalk ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "Martin White" wrote in message ... Belkin Router and Windows Messenger Help required
Hi Teresa,
Hmm -- hopefully this is true, although Belkin doesn't document any Messenger support it would be nice if they added it. Since it only works with the DMZ setting, most likely they added some built-in support for Messenger voice/video, but not Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). Out of curiosity, which model of Belkin router do you have? ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "timeless" wrote in message ...
