Default Status after signin

Is there a way to control status upon signin in Windows Messenger.
In MSMessenger, there was a way to do this, but when I upgraded,
it gave me Windiows Messenger. I am running Windows Messenger 5.1

A secondary annoyance is that Help-Help Topics does not work.
Nothing happens, not even an hourglass

No, Windows Messenger has never had this capability (and never will, the product is no longer
being developed).

Just download and install Windows Live Messenger as it has this capability:
http://get.live.com/messenger/overview
