2 network cards and one USB ISDN adapter acting as a PPP/SLIP connection don't like each other
I have a Computer, with 2 PCI network cards, 1x 100 Base T, 1x 10Base T. Both are Realtek cards. They drive 2 different networks, and it acts as a default Gateway to the 2 networks. As well, there is another gateway with the same configuration. Additionally there is a Siemens I-Surf USB ISDN adapter. If I deactivate the 10BaseT card, or the 100Base T card, everything works fine. As soon, as I run all cards, and connect to the internet (which still works OK), if I open any application like Internet Explorer, or Outlook, the application tries to communicate with one of my internal network cards, and not with the ISDN adapter. One can observe this behaviour by the blinking of the network symbol in the info region of the taskbar (b.t.w. I run XP Professional). As soon as any application tries to use the internet, the symbol of one of the internal network cards gets active. And nothing happens, likewise understandable. In any ethernet card, there is a standard gateway configured. Funny enough it shows somehow, that WINS proxy is activated, and IPRouting is activated. Even though, I am absolutely sure, that I did not enable that. Maybe driven by history. The computer was before a Win2k client in a Win2k server domain. Just the performance was so slow, so I skipped Win2k server, and run my network just with XP clients, and get the network connection by the standard features of XP professional.I just updated to XP, but did not install everything new, just an update with keeping of the settings. Is it possible, that there is still some leftover from the old domain settings? I removed the client from the domain, but did not check the ipconfig settings. *geeee* And that to me. I hope, I do not have to install everything new. I never saw like that. But it would explain some funny beaviour. I just do not know, how to get out of that. Help would be appreciated. Appended the output of the ipconfig and route command. I replaced the first 2 digits of my internal network by XX, because I do not want to know anybody my IP addies Also I erased the physical adresses of my cards Hope you do not mind .) I hope, I get this to run. regards Mike P.S. I had to translate this to english, I run a german version The output of ipconfig is in the attachment Output of route print XX replaces always the same digits. ================================================== ========================= Interface List 0x1 ........................... 2 network cards and one USB ISDN adapter acting as a PPP/SLIP connection don't like each other
You need to change the interface metric on the Nic you don't want routing to
the internet. Open the TCP properties on your internal NIC, go to the DNS section, and change the interface metric (use manual metrics for both nics) from 1 to 2. This basically tells the PC which NIC has priority for routing. "Decamerone" wrote in message ... I have a Computer, with 2 PCI network cards, 1x 100 Base T, 1x 10Base T. Both are Realtek cards.
