"Validating identity" on wireless connect

Default "Validating identity" on wireless connect

Running XP SP2, wireless g laptop, SMC wireless broadband
router. Wireless says I am connected to a security
enabled wireless network and the Validating identity
message is constant.
Any suggestions for next step would be appreciated.
