Default How to save and later restore icon layout?

I carefully arrange icons on my desktop. Every once in a while I
ending up running applications that think they need to rearrange the
icons on my desktop, completely messing up the arrangement I had set
up.

Is there a way to save and later restore my icon layout, so I can set
up the arrangement I want, save it, and then if something rearranges
it later, I can then restore the layout I had saved?

Third party software - some of which may come with the full-featured
installation of your software often given/provided by the hardware
manufacturer of your video card.
