Two computers on Windows10.
I have the latest Windows10 with an upstairs
terminal & a downstairs one. I can connect via cable or WiFi. It works. But the two instances cannot be run simultaneously because when I'm upstairs after using the downstairs one I have to start the program all over again (Access10). How can I have both terminals running at the same time, and add data to any depending on where I am. |

How can I have both terminals running at the same time, and add data to any depending on where I am. Unless I am missing something you need to clarify some things. When you say "upstairs terminal and a downstairs one"; Do you mean you have a computer upstairs running windows 10 and a down stairs computer running windows 10? (Most people understand a terminal to be essentially a dumb keyboard with monitor. It then operates on a main computer. You could have several terminals operating on one computer, the computer would maintain separate areas for processing for each terminal.) When you say "add date to any depending on where I am". First I assume you mean upstairs or downstairs. Second do you mean have the same file open simultaneously upstairs and down stairs? Or you mean open the file on the down stairs computer and close it then open it on the upstairs computer. If you mean open it down stairs and then upstairs, this came be done by sharing the disk on each computer. You would then open the shared drive on the other computer through the LAN. If you mean having same files open on both computer this is problematic as this requires programs that will allow the same file to be opened and edited on two different computer simultaneously I have both of my computers operating on the same LAN. Each computer's main drive is shared to the LAN. I then keep both computer sync so both computers have the same data. When both computers are on I can access the file on the local disk or on the shared drive. You can not add data to one file and have it appear in the file on the shared drive. -- 2018: The year we learn to play the great game of Euchre |

But, generally, your data should be on a shared drive on one machine. You can enter data from either machine, as long as the machine with the database is running, whether or not Access is running on it at the time. It isn't necessary to have shared drives on both machines for this particular task. -- best regards, Neil |

Maybe the file sharing option ? https://support.office.com/en-us/art...a-68da245a0446 The file sharing method might be good enough for two terminals and one database. Paul |

How can I have both terminals running at the same time, and add data to any depending on where I am. Both computers need Access 2010 installed. The Access database file that you want to work on needs to be on one computer only (the file can be open or closed on that computer). It needs permissions setting to be shared. The other computer needs to connect to that file via the network. With the same database file open on both machines you can input data at the same time from each machine. AFAIK, An individual record will be locked so that only one machine can amend it at the same time if both machines try accessing it at once. -- mick |

In Windows 10 make sure you share the drive where the files are located and then make the settings in Access. -- 2018: The year we learn to play the great game of Euchre |
