Default Configuring and installing fax - Windows XP Home

I am trying to install the fax component and have
followed all the instructions obtained by clicking Help
and Support from the Start Menu. Everything appears to
be progressing but the warning "it may take several
minutes" surely doesn't mean more than 10 minutes? It
tells me Set up is making the configuration, it tells me
to insert the Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack and
click OK. After a busy minute of whirrs and arrow
flickers and one green bar on the "copying files" window
there is nothing.
Any suggestions please?
