how to disable msn messenger
Greetings DW,
To stop this from happening, first remove this saved Passport by clicking the Start Button, then click the Control Panel. Then, click User Accounts in the Control Panel. Select your account name, and then on the left side of the screen, under Related Tasks, click 'Manage my Network Passwords'. In the window that opens, click the Passport.Net\* (Passport) entry and click 'Remove'. Then open up Messenger (you'll find it under the start menu under either Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger, depending on what's installed -- if both are, you'll need to disable both), click the Tools menu, then Options, then Preferences tab (or General tab depending on version), uncheck 'Run this program when Windows starts', 'Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts' or 'Automatically run Messenger when I log on to Windows' (again, depending on version) and click OK. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "denis" wrote in message ... my son has loaded msn messenger on my office laptop. every time i turn on the computer i get one of his friends loggin in and a window pops up. i right click on the messenger icon to sign out. so my question is how the heck do i keep this form openign every time i turn on the computer. i am running xp and would like to remove it or at least disable the stupid thing. thanks dw |

how to disable msn messenger
Then open up Messenger (you'll find it under the start
menu under either Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger, depending on what's installed -- if both are, you'll need to disable both), click the Tools menu, then Options, then Preferences tab (or General tab depending on version), uncheck 'Run this program when Windows starts', 'Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts' or 'Automatically run Messenger when I log on to Windows' (again, depending on version) and click OK. I don't have any of these options. I have messenger version 4.7.0041. I want it to go away, stay away and quit asking me to upgrade...HOW? |

Hi,
If the option isn't showing up, then you'll need to install the latest version of Messenger he http://www.microsoft.com/windows/messenger/download.asp and then disable it using that method. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "Cat&kite" wrote in message ...
