Default xp sp2 install error requested section was not found in the activation context

Hi all

I have a fresh xp prof install, and trying to update to sp2, have a
copy on hdd, have also downloaded the one from ms stand alone
installation. And also ran via windows update.
When I run the pack it extracts and as it is inspecting a message
appears saying 'The requested section was not present in the activation
context' and then end in a sp2 install could not complete.

I've tried, running sfc, and all is fine. also found a command that
somebody posted saying to run command "secedit /configure /cfg
%windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb
/verbose /areas regkeys "
Tried without any job.
Made sure all users have admin right, no fire wall, safe mode.

Done all of google msn mdsn and groups btw

Running out of ideas.

Any help much appreciated

Thanks Ian

Hi Ian,

This could be due to permissions problem. Create a new Administrator account
and try. If in XP PRO, the following command can help:

1. Open command prompt.
2. type the following command and hit enter:

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb
/verbose /areas regkeys

3. Restart and computer and try installing SP2.

Regards,

Arun Aluvila.

Hi Arun

Thanks for the sugestion, I'd found the secedit trick in another post
ran it but no joy. Have just just created a new admin account and tried
to run under that one but again no job. does anybody know if when it
runs it runs with the user that you are logged on with or a
MS/install/other user id ? just a straw to cling on to in the hope i
may be able to fix without a format and re-install

just to update you, I fixed this problem by the 2 dll's that sp2
install needs, did this and all worked !, it wasnt the same message
that I got as the site shows, and i dodnt use xp-antispy (as it's naff
!) but worked !

http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:8...cdll.dll&hl=en

If you ever installed XP-Antispy, it disables a dll Windows XP SP-1
needs, so just in case:
Start/Run
Type "regsvr32.exe licdll.dll" ENTER
"DllRegisterServer in licdll.dll succeeded." should be displayed
Type "regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll" ENTER
"DllRegisterServer in regwizc.dll succeeded." should be displayed
NOTE: You can safely use this procedure to resolve this issue even if
XP-AntiSpy is not installed on your computer.
(Service Pack 1 Setup Cancelled" Error Message When You Install Windows
XP SP1)
