new to messenger - help!

I'm new to messenger and videocons.I have set up my pc and have manged
to send instant messages - and get replies. Also have had videocons with
a pal. But I'm being asked to verify my newly acquired messenger address
but when I follow the procedure I get a message saying I will get an
email confirming - but where to? I think they mean back into messenger
but nothing appears. Totally confusing. Can anyone explain please?

I have a second query - On my laptop I am setting up messenger and I
cannot get the sound to work. I have tried the 'test hardware' wizard
and it seems ok but I cannot record/hear playback - one or both - Any
ideas please. I have already checked both cam and mic by putting them on
the other pc and they work fine there

Replying to my own query. I have resolved the recording/playback issue.
I'm left with the problem of the pop up that says 'you need to register
yor email address'. I register it and wait for the confirmation email -
but it doesn't arrive. Is this supposed to come in as a normal email -
how can it I'm not set up for it!! Or is it supposed to come to an inbox
in Windows Messenger. Please can someone explain. At the moment I can
get on line ( I think) but my other pc shows me as off line. Very
confusing. Is there any other system that I can use instead of WMess as
I'm losing patience.
