Windows XP Fax Device Limit of One
According to Microsoft KB Article #555403, there is a Fax Device limit of 1.
See http://support.microft.com/kb/555403 This article is very brief. I have a Windows 2003 server that I have a shared network fax on that I have in turn hooked my Windows XP workstations up to. This works pretty good on workstations that do not have their own Local Fax Modem. On Windows XP workstations that have their own local fax modem installed on I've seen some problems. Is the server's fax considered a 2nd device to the Windows XP workstation? Windows XP did not complain when I installed the network fax. The main issue is that sometimes when I double click the Local Fax, I usually see the Server's Inbox/Outbox, which seems wrong. I've seen other times where I click the Network Fax and the Inbox/Outbox is empty, implying that the Fax Console is showing me the Local Fax rather than my Network Fax. My thinking is that when I double click the Local Fax, I should see faxes that have been sent and received from the local fax, and that when I double click the network fax, I should see documents that have been sent and received from the network fax. In my case, while I'd like to see still be able to use my Local Fax, the most important functionality is to see the Network Fax that I have shared out on the Windows 2003 server. Is there some sort of procedure to make sure the Workstation is seeing the Network Fax Inbox/Outbox while I'm in the Fax Console? I've also seen cases where each Fax item shows up twice in the Inbox and Outbox. Thanks! Anthony |
