A website virus spoof?
DO NOT click on this link unless you have a bulletproof system like mine.
http://windowsgotinfected.info/warning-info.htm I think it's harmless, but it can mess up your browsing experience. There are other URLs that produce the same silly looking virus warning. I suspect it's a new thing. Apparently it's a hard-core sales tactic. |

John Doe writted thus:

Quite harmless to FF on Linux. -- This usenet post has not been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus because it is not an email. |

Quite harmless to FF on Linux. Clearly a complete load of rubbish. A firewall does not and can not detect viruses. At best it can possibly warn of virus like network activity but that is all. -- Brian Gregory (in the UK). To email me please remove all the letter vee from my email address. |

It's a web page with some text overlayed with another panel of text, making it impossible to read the initial web page. Says something about windows firewall and registry, which is strange since I didn't know Linux Mint Cinnamon had such things. You can't close the page or close the browser (google chrome), but a quick switch to terminal mode, a ps command and a kill of chrome did the trick. |

A quick trip to Task Manager, hammer the browser, problem solved. If you want to stop processes from a Command Prompt window (suitably elevated), there are tasklist /? taskkill /? as your friends. But Task Manager is the control of last resort, when the Desktop Interface has gone to hell and won't let you open anything more. Paul |
