Windows boop-be-doop sound
A few times a day I get the Windows boop-de-doop sound much like what I get
when a usb flash drive is inserted or outserted. I don't see any visible notifications anywhere of what it was tht caused the boob-de-doop sound. Is there a log somewhere I can look at when it happens next? |

https://www.techrepublic.com/article...-event-viewer/ Totally irrelevant. The event viewer is enormous. I don't think it's a flash drive because I don't have any plugged in. It's just that kind of boop-de-doop sound I'm trying to describe. I don't know why I get that boop-de-doop sound a few times a day. |

For starters, you might only select Critical, Warning, and Error, just to weed out some of the noise. If you don't see what you need there, maybe deselect those and select Information. Make a note of the time when it happens next, then use that to further narrow your search in Event Viewer. Using Custom Range, you can narrow it down to just a single minute, if necessary. Perhaps a USB wifi adapter or ethernet adapter? If so, maybe you get the sound when a signal is temporarily lost. |

Windows boop-be-doop sound
I had something similar that has been going on for years, which, thanks to
Paul & Poutnik, I just now accidentally tracked down to the USB mouse, literally by accident. In an attempt at assessing which of the two is most useful for my needs, I was monitoring USB comings and goings using the Nirsoft USBDeview utility that Poutnik suggested alongside the Sieber USBTreeView utility that Paul suggested. My goal was to use them for a day or two, and choose the one I like best. Those two USB monitor utilities were suggested in this thread on how to create a Run command that allowed me to edit a syslog file maintained for each PC and operating system on a single flash drive of any drive letter: o What solution do you use to figure out what USB drive letter in a Windows scripted command? https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.comp.microsoft.windows/HkfHsx6chBk On one monitor I had both Nirsoft USBDeview & Sieber USBTreeView running, and wouldn't you know it. At some point in time, I heard the classic USB disconnect sound, and glanced at the USB monitors. The line for the mouse turned red, and then, in a second, back to green. And then the coloring went away. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......... Given that works so well, if you have an intermittent issue with USB devices disconnecting momentarily, then I would suggest keeping Paul's suggested Sieber USBTreeView running, so that, when it happens, you can visually see which device is disconnecting and then reconnecting. -- At first, I only saw the green because I missed the red, but when I tested it by pulling out the cord, it goes red first and then green when reconnected and then within a second or so, it goes back to transparent. |
